Calling ex-junior match anglers!

Did you fish NJAA competitions as a junior in years gone by? We are keen to hear from anglers who fish our matches pre-1995, who may have kept results / photos of the events. Please contact us if you can help us fill in our missing records. See the Trophy Cabinet section for what we are looking for.

WELCOME fish
WELCOME to the homepage of the National Junior Angling Association (NJAA).

The NJAA has been running match fishing competitions for junior anglers for 50 years. We are a voluntary organisation, and host 3 major competitions annually. Our competitions and membership are open to any junior fishing teams.

Please feel free to browse our website. All sections of the site can be accessed from the blue navigation menu on the top left of each page.

     WEBSITE UPDATE - JANUARY 2008

We apologise for the lengthy downtime of our website during 2007. We had a few problems, but they have now been sorted and normal service is restored.  Any emails received at our office@njaa.org.uk address during 2007 have unfortunately been destroyed. But the email is back online now and please use it to contact the association.

'Challenge Match' - Sat 4 October 08 - Chesterfield Canal (hosted by Worksop & District)

WHAT IS THE NJAA?

The National Junior Angling Association is an affiliation of junior sections of angling clubs from across the United Kingdom. We are a voluntary organisation run by our members, for our members. We host independent fishing competitions for teams of junior anglers, and provide the chance for any club or team to join us and fish against the best young anglers in the country.

First established in 1957 when membership was entirely from the North of England, the Association has expanded in recent years to include the entire country. More than 250 aspiring young anglers fished in our National competition in 2005. Come and join us and support the next generation of superstar match anglers.

ANNUAL NJAA COMPETITIONS

We hold 3 team competitions every year which are open to all NJAA-affiliated clubs. There are two age categories: JUNIORS (Under 16s) and INTERMEDIATES (Under 20s).

Our NATIONAL comptition has been running for 50 years, and is our premier event. The match always takes place on the first Saturday in September. The venue could be a canal, river or stillwater.

The CHALLENGE match takes place on the first Saturday in October, and is usually fished on a canal or river. Every year, one of our member clubs hosts the competition on their home venue.

The KNOCKOUT competition is for Junior teams only and has Regional qualifying heats, where teams battle for a place in the Knockout Final. Most of the matches take place on still waters. The Final is usually held in June each year.

Please feel free to browse around our site. We will do our best to keep it as updated as possible. If you have any comments or questions, please contact us.

WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?

Millions of people across the country go fishing. At a competitive level, Team England are the current World Champions at both senior and junior levels of freshwater angling. In order to become the best at any sport, young stars need the chance to compete at a high level to practice and showcase their skills. Our competitions provide that platform for young anglers to be their best, without adding unnecessary pressure from onlookers, who are not allowed to interfere with play in our matches.

At the NJAA, we understand the importance of being part of a team, and what a positive effect it can have on young people.  That is why our competitions are open to any fishing club, team or group of young coarse anglers that want to enter and enjoy the experience of team competition.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Are you a fishery owner or fishing club that would like to support junior match anglers?

Do you work for a company that would like to sponsor a sport that this country excels at, and is inclusive to all children regardless of physical size, ability, gender or social background?

The NJAA provides our own trophies for winners of our competitions. These are paid for out of the entry fee that teams pay to enter the contest and from our annual affiliation fees. However, we welcome sponsorship from business, tackle manufacturers and individuals, which we can use to provide additional prizes for the winning children to take home.

Aside from spiraling insurance costs, one of the greatest burdens on the NJAA is the peg fees that we are charged to use fisheries. Even though it should be in the interest of any forward-thinking fishery owner to promote junior matches, some still charge us the peg fee, and this means that we are left with less resources to provide prizes and trophies for our winning individuals and teams. If you would like to sponsor one of our matches, please contact us
