MATCH
REPORT (by John Morrison, BAFAC)
Six-man
teams from Barnton & Frodsham AC, Lymm AC and Warrington AA
took part in the
Cheshire
leg of the National Junior Angling
Association’s Knockout Cup, 2004, which was held on Sunday at
the Junior and Middle Cisterns in
Anderton
Nature
Park
.
This
was the first time that Barnton & Frodsham's water had been
used for a team competition. All 18 of the under-16 year old
anglers who competed caught fish and they put a combined weight
of just over 98lbs onto the scales.
In
first place was Warrington AA who put in a fine team performance
to claim 4 section wins and 2 runner-up spots to accumulate 16
points. The second slot went to the youngsters from Barnton
& Frodsham AC. They
used their knowledge of these waters, which are run by their
Club, to claim 11 points. This just edged them ahead of the Lymm
AC team who had a total of 9 points.
Trophies were awarded to
the three anglers with the top weights on the day. The runaway
individual winner was Daniel Ashbrook from Barnton &
Frodsham with a net of
20-9-0
. Drawn on the Junior Cistern on the bank
next to the track, Daniel fished big maggot and caster close to
the reed bed to take an excellent mirror carp of
15-2-0
, a tench close to the 4lb mark, plus roach
and rudd.
Second was Danny
Griffiths, (Warrington AA), with
9-14-0
. Danny used big maggot to take tench,
skimmers, rudd, roach and a bream from the Junior Cistern. This
pool also provided the third highest individual weigh. This went
to Andrew Lewis, (Warrington AA), with
9-10-0
.
The top weight from the
two sections fishing on the Middle Cistern was a net of
7-3-0
put together by Ian Morrison, (Warrington
AA).
