Report (by Martin Riches)
Kings Lynn
Angling Association hosted the Eastern Region qualifying round
of the National Junior Angling Association Knockout Trophy. This
four-hour competition between Harleston Junior Angling Club and
the host club Kings Lynn was held on Bear Lake, a small prolific
carp lake at the Sheperds Port Fishery in Snettisham.
Unsettled
weather during the week and a strong cold Northerly wind blowing
some heavy showers across the wash put pay to any hopes of big
weights on this normally prolific Carp fishery.
On
the team front a well-practiced and strong Kings Lynn side
scored a convincingly victory with five out of their six anglers
weighing in to score 9 points. With only one angler from the
visiting Harleston squad managing to trouble the scales the
result was never in doubt.
Individually Jack
Weatherley restored some pride to the Harleston Team landing
four Carp including a 13lb 12oz monster for a match winning 21lb
3oz. Jack drew well, peg five in the corner with the wind
blowing straight in and a spare peg either side. With the strong
wind affecting presentation Jack set his stall out to fish the
nearside margins keeping things close and simple. Feeding
lightly with micro pellet and corn he landed three fish on corn
and the match-winning monster on a big lump of meat.

Kings
Lynn angler Dan Collins made the
most of his end peg advantage battling with the strong winds to
fish tight to the far bank features at 13 metres and land five
slightly smaller stamp fish to compete right up to the final
whistle falling just short with 17lb 10oz
Young
Sophie Williams one of three girls fishing in the Kings Lynn
squad finished third with a fine performance landing two good
carp from peg 7 fishing maggot down the middle to keep
presentation simple in the winds. Her final weight of 10lb 12oz
included a lovely common weighing nearly eight pounds.
King’s
Lynn progress to the final at Hampton Springs,Malpas,Cheshire on
10th June.
