Match Report - Juniors

An tough match for all teams, the canal fished hard and every ounce was important for points. Most anglers adopted a squat and slop approach to build up a weight of roach with odd skimmers, although some bonus perch featured to boost section points. In the individual stakes, there were joint ties for both second and third places, although it was Richard Pitts of Leeds and District who claimed the sole top spot. Richard worked with the long pole and caster to put together 5lbs 3ozs 8drs of silvers and win the match, although he was dissappointed at his teammate's efforts, as Team Gem 1 finished behind their Cadet team (Team Gem 3).

In the team event, it was the 'canal' squads who shone through, and Barnsley's 'A' team showed their experience to take the match 6 points clear of nearest rivals, Warrington Gold.

Intermediates

The Intermdiate sections proved even harder than the juniors, with several dry nets, but it was a confident performance by Andrew Geldart of Barnsley A, to take the match with 4-8-0 of small fish. Andrew's team-mate Paul Crossland placed second with 4-2-0 and Evesham's Mark Williams completed the podium with 3-4-8 for third.

Barnsley's starlet intermediate squad ('A' team) ensured a clean sweep in the team event, with another 6 points margin over Peatmoor. Evesham finished 3rd with 48pts.
