Match Report - Juniors

Most teams found this competition really tough, and as Hallcroft's carp refused to feed, most anglers had to make the decision to either scratch out a few ounces for team points, or sit it out for one bite that could win their section. Sections A-D were located on the Outer Moat, with E section on Reed pool and F section on Croft. From the outset, it was Reed pool that looked to be the one to produce the winning individual weight. The carp seemed to be shoaled up in the corners, and the there was a fish-by-fish race between Coventry's Sam Bates, Warrington's Rob Conroy and Peatmoor rod, Tom Bevan. As the match progressed, Sam and Rob seemed to have the edge, although a late push from Chris Hirst (Derby) and Terry Foulds (Worksop) made for a close finish.

After a tense weigh-in, Sam Bates (Coventry Canal JAC) took the top spot with 27lbs 14oz of carp, taken on the pole. Robert Conroy put together 26lbs 4ozs from peg 1, mostly taken on the tip, and admitted he had probably lost and missed the same weight again during the match. 3rd placed rod, Chris Hirst from Derby's 'A'-team managed 24lbs 6ozs, a pound clear of his nearest rival.

In the team event, it couldn't have been any closer. After a lengthy wait for the results, it emerged that local favourites Worksop & District 'A' team had drawn on points with Warrington Gold. After a countback on weight, Warrington were proclaimed as champions, with 10lbs to spare. After the match, team captain and section winner Ian Morrison said "I can't believe we've won it! Robert Conroy's weight was a big help to us, but Andy only managed three ounces, so we thought that we'd blown it.. it's a good job he did catch that roach though, because those points were precious too!". Just 2-points behind the leaders were the emerging talent in the NJAA, Peatmoor Junior AA.

Intermediates

Pegged on Moat Inner, the Intermediate sections were even harder than the juniors. Very few bonus carp showed, and one most anglers spent the day waiting for a single bite. Pegged in 'C'-section, the most productive in the match, Chris Finneran of Lymm AC managed to tempt a few fish on long pole tactics, which put a respectable 20lbs 1oz on the scales, good enough to take the individual title. Pegged next door, Simon Smith (Team Gem Bronze) weighed in with 17lbs 12ozs for 2nd place, and only 2 pegs away on C13, Nathan Rows of Peatmoor Junior AA made up the top 3 with 16lbs 10ozs.
